Mizoram: Assam Residents Arrested for Heroin and Methamphetamine Possession

KOHIMA: In a recent development, law enforcement authorities in Mizoram's Serchhip district have apprehended two individuals hailing from Assam's Karimganj district on charges of possessing a significant quantity of heroin and Methamphetamine. The arrests were made following a meticulously executed operation based on a credible tip-off.

The incident unfolded when a patrolling team from the East Lungdar police in Serchhip district acted on the provided information and intercepted a vehicle exhibiting suspicious behavior. This operation took place on a Tuesday, as stated in an official police release. The intercepted vehicle, upon thorough inspection, revealed a staggering 548.15 grams of heroin ingeniously concealed within 39 soap cases. Additionally, a substantial quantity of 5.32 kilograms (equivalent to 50,000 tablets) of Methamphetamine was also discovered and subsequently confiscated from the vehicle.

The two individuals responsible for transporting the contraband substances have been identified as MD Ekbal Hussain (21) and Sayad Uddin (27). Both individuals hail from Assam's Karimganj district. Law enforcement authorities wasted no time in apprehending them for their involvement in possessing and transporting these illegal substances.

Legal proceedings are well underway, with the accused being booked under several sections of the Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. Specifically, they have been charged under sections 21(c), 22(c), 29, and 25 of the mentioned act.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are dedicated to uncovering the full scope of this case. The focus lies on identifying both the origins and destinations of these illicit substances.
